North Charleston Riverfront Park Honored with Beacon Award
The Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce recently awarded the City of North Charleston’s Riverfront Park with the Beacon Award for elevating the aesthetics and improving the quality of life for the region. Davis & Floyd is proud to have been a part of the team that worked with the City to bring Riverfront Park to life.
The firm served as the park’s design engineer and provided the due diligence and design necessary for deconstruction or protection of existing structures, pavements, and utilities in addition to the design of new elements such as retaining walls, boardwalks, and structural foundations. Davis & Floyd also added new water, sanitary sewer, and stormwater facilities.
Located along the Cooper River, Riverfront Park is a world-class park that emerged from the grounds of the Officer’s Club and Golf Course within the former Naval Base. This facility includes amenities that cater to the general public, providing an interpretive and meaningful access to the river that the citizens of North Charleston previously lacked. Complete with a one-of-a-kind amphitheater, interpretive vistas, and interactive fountain, the park draws patrons to community events throughout the year.
Davis & Floyd was also commissioned by the City of North Charleston to lead a team of professional engineers and architects for the survey, design, and construction documentation for the Greater Charleston Naval Base Memorial. Located within Riverfront Park, this facility contains a pavilion structure, water features including a reflection pool with pedestrian bridges, sculptures, and landscaping that continue the unique sustainable fabric used in the construction of Riverfront Park.
Congratulations to the City of North Charleston and Riverfront Park on winning this great award!
