US 21 Bridge Replacement over Albergotti Creek
Because the existing bridge was classified as functionally obsolete and structurally deficient, it needed to be replaced.
Replaced the existing 94’ x 64’ bridge with a new 120’ x 83’ bridge
Planned the roadway design to allow for enough space to install a temporary concrete barrier wall between the work zones and traffic
Phased construction to accommodate traffic and minimize environmental impacts
Assisted with permitting - although the project was eligible for a Categorical Exclusion from the NEPA process, it required both an OCRM Critical Area Permit and usage of SCDOT General Permit with the US Army Corps of Engineers for wetland impacts
Because US 21 is a hurricane evacuation route, four lanes of traffic had to remain open at all times during construction
Designed a larger, safer bridge with a longer approach and improved drainage.
