Objectives

The Department of Veterans Affairs National Cemetery Administration selected Davis & Floyd to provide master planning and design services for a new veterans cemetery that could accommodate their long-term burial needs.

Scope

Provided all surveying services

Performed all aspects of civil design involving acquisition of all permits

Coordinated with utility companies to connect existing electrical, sewer, gas and telecommunications systems

Proposed grades, roads, parking lots and maintenance yards

Designed all systems associated with water, sewer and storm-water management

Provided fire protection to buildings and hydrants

Challenges

An expansive site that included more than 90 acres of wetlands

A terrain that required careful design to avoid conflicts with burial areas and other utilities

Outcome

A well-designed cemetery that utilized pre-placed infrastructure while appropriately planning for additional phases that would accommodate burial needs for future decades.
